A baby has died after her dad reportedly found the family dog lying on her.
The father of four-month-old Raelynn Larrison, from Dayton, Ohio, US, cried out ‘my baby ain’t breathing’ as he begged emergency services for help.
Raelynn was pronounced dead at Dayton Children’s Hospital on December 31, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
Her dad called 911 at around 7pm that day, telling the call handler that his puppy was lying on his daughter.
He said: “She’s not breathing. My baby ain’t breathing
“The puppy was lying on her and I just now noticed it.”
The father had awoken from a nap to find his daughter unconscious with the dog ‘lying’ on top of her, it is claimed.
The breed of the dog is not known, however neighbour Lonnie Dapier reportedly described it as a ‘big’ animal.
She said it had previously escaped the home, adding: “It’s a horrible thing if you can’t control an animal.”
The neighbour said young children should not have a ‘big dog like that’ near them.
Ms Dapier added that she hoped the dog would be ‘taken care of’ so it could not ‘injure anyone else’, the Sun reports.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to pay for the baby’s funeral.
It states: “A unexpected tragedy happen last night 12/31/2020, when we lost our beautiful four month niece.
“Please help in any way you possibly can so that we can lay this beautiful girl to rest.”
The page has already raised more than £4,800.
No arrests have been made and an autopsy is due to take place.
