While most of us spent lockdown counting down the days until we could put down the box dyes and say goodbye to the DIY fringes, it turns out us humans weren’t the only ones desperate to get a professional trim.
A diva dog desperately needed some of her excess fur cutting down while groomers were shut last year, prompting her owner, hair stylist Claudia Brewer, to have a go at home.
But, rather hilariously, things went drastically wrong when Pepper, the mischievous toy schnauzer, spent half an hour completely refusing to let her go anywhere near her torso, having already had her head and legs completely shaved.
“She likes her feet done, but then as I was going up her legs she was a difficult customer,” Claudia explained.
“She doesn’t like it if I try to cut underneath her, so I tried to cut the main body but then I just avoided it and turned her into a little sheep.”
But, despite the unusual cut, Pepper doesn’t seem to mind her new sheep dog look, and she has even become a viral sensation on TikTok.
“She doesn’t want to be a dog, she wants to be a sheep. She seems to like it and she’s not getting too hot. Now my nephew wants me to shave his dog like a teddy bear. We struggled getting an appointment and I’d bought some dog sheers on Instagram, so I thought I’ll just do it,” Claudia said.
“I was dying laughing. And then we had a party for Mother’s Day and people were asking ‘what is that?’ They went nuts over her new look. She gets lots of attention and everyone wants to see her. People are always asking about her. I’m going to leave the haircut.”
In clips shared to TikTok, the 13-year-old pooch can be seen fluttering her long eyelashes with her head fur cut down to her collar and her almost-bare legs sticking out from her flurry body.
Claudia’s husband, Jacob Brewer, added: “I came home and thought she looked like a sheep right away. With the scrawny legs and fluffy body.
“It’s funny watching her run around because the fluff has a lot of bounce in it, but it’ll be good to get her back to the groomers when they’re less busy.
“Claudia’s definitely better at styling humans than styling dogs, and I think she’d agree with that. When she gets an idea, she likes to go with it.”
